the morning after [the season opener]

Published by honeybear at 11:38 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

It felt good this morning when, on a train ride into the city, pictures of jubilant football players plastered onto newspapers were plastered to the train floor.  Football season has officially begun– this is “next year” in Chicago.  And despite some seasoned sports writers predictions that the Bears will mayybe go 7-9 and finish 3rd in the division, things aren’t looking too bad.   In the season opener against the Colts, Kyle Orton completed 13 of 21 passes for 150 yards with NO INTERCEPTIONS!  How about that, Chicago?  True, he was no Tom Brady (but neither was Tom Brady, so who cares?).   And who knew Matt Forte was going to be so great!!??  With 23 carries for 123 yards, he left Chicago thinking, Cedric who?  The first rookie running back to start an opener since Walter Payton, Forte assuaged Bears fans everywhere that Jerry Angelo has not lost his touch.   In the second game against the Colts since that game (you know, the big one), we really kicked butt.  True, Payton Manning didn’t play in the preseason, and has had some issues with his foot.  But a win is a win, and Chicago comes home with a 1-0 start to “this year.”
